Why Foster?

The bottom line is that fostering directly saves lives. A foster home is the safe bridge that leads to the dog’s happily-ever-after. Not only does fostering help that particular dog, but it also saves others by freeing up space in shelters. As a completely foster-based rescue, we can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes willing to take the dogs in.

Fostering a dog is a very rewarding experience. If you are looking for a hands-on, interactive way to get involved with rescue, fostering may be for you! Bringing a rescue dog into a new temporary home can have challenges, but the rewards far outweigh those challenges.

What Can I Expect?

Sometimes dogs in need of a foster home have been well cared for and are in good health, and other times they are stinky, flea-infested, scared babies that need some extra TLC to understand that we are here to help. Sometimes fosters even have behavioral issues due to lack of training, physical disabilities, or other special needs. We firmly believe each of these dogs deserves a chance and there is a home out there for each one of them. Many of them quickly make a complete turnaround with the right care. We don’t expect you to take in a dog you are not comfortable with, but we have found the more challenging fosters are the most rewarding!

Foster homes must be able to make an informed decision as to the type of home and family their foster would fit in best with, and then be able to let go of that foster into their forever home once it comes along. Letting a foster go is the hardest part of being a foster parent, but it is also the bittersweet reward of knowing we have accomplished our mission as rescuers and successfully rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed a dog in need. The love and appreciation a foster dog gives is an unconditional love and gratitude like no other that keeps a foster home’s door revolving - and there is always another dog that needs you!
